wedding date: July 3, 2014
Paige and Jason are a sweet and lovely couple I had the pleasure of working with. They are also both artists at heart: Paige is an art teacher, and Jason is an actor. When we Skyped for the first time (as they live in Colorado), they told me about an old black and white photograph they have of Gapstow Bridge in Central Park, New York. The old photograph has been a part of their home and their lives throughout their relationship, and they used it as inspiration for their wedding plans. They decided to follow the photograph, and take their love story to the very spot that has looked upon them from a wall for years - how romantic! The wedding started off at Tavern on the Green, the iconic and beautiful restaurant that has recently been revamped and reopened. Amidst greenery and sunlight filtering through the windows, it was the perfect spot for a daytime reception where Paige and Jason treated all their guests to a lovely lunch and drinks. Afterward, Jason, the groomsmen, and the guests made their way to Gapstow Bridge to wait for Paige and her bridal party. The ceremony was held on a patch of grass right by the pond with the bridge in the background. Did I mention that it was perhaps the hottest and most humid day of the year so far?! But everyone was in good spirits as Paige and Jason said their vows, all the while drawing quite a large tourist group to witness the ceremony! The event was then followed by speeches, laughs, tears, cupcakes, candies, and Perrier under the shade of a large tree - an escape from the mid-afternoon sun. I made sure to take portraits of Paige and Jason throughout their wedding, including lots of black and white, and photos afterward by the bridge, keeping in mind the old black and white photograph that inspired this beautiful wedding and couple to begin with. Finally, Paige and Jason appropriately ended the affair by having a horse-drawn carriage whisk them away as family and friends threw flower petals in the air!
